Masons Arms

A family meal for 20 ordered in advance

I attended the Masons Arms last Tuesday for my girlfriends aunts birthday party - havent been to the masons since 1990 so I had been told it was good. We sat at our table after waiting for ages at the bar for the bar man to get orginised - 1 bar staff with a big party in the restaurant ??? - Any way starter arrived, I had ordered garlic mushrooms - horrible is the only word to comment, lightly tasted of garlic but all the other herbs over powered the dish, served on a peice of Kingsmill 50/50 - toasted. I did wonder when 6 of us ordered starters and they were brought out 1 at a time, although there seamed to be loads of waitresses ???? Mains where then served, all ordered in advance in writing stating everyone choices. They brought the mains out 1 at a time as well - the first 6 that were served were finished before my steak arrived - I ordered a sirloin steak med/rare with stilton sauce and chips - what came was a well done rump steak over cooked chips and stilton sauce. I ask for the steak to be changed and sat there with my over cooked chips - the rest of the meals came out - but what this? all the steak and ale pies are steak and kidney, denoted but the pastry K on the top, and what do you mean you wanted chips and pea's - these all have mash and veg with them --- oops. After everyone had had their meals my steak arrived still rump but now rare - chips had since dissapeared as i was hungry and my stilton sauce was a cold lump. The waitresses were very good and very appoligetic, but the owner/manager did not feel the need to come over and offer any explaination or discount so we paid and left - never to return I may add. I have had to put a star but as with simnon cowell " I would like to withdraw it"
