As a key member of sustainable Frome we are always looking at new and ethical ways to manage our lives, from shopping, recycling, transport and even holidays. I will be honest its hard, really hard at times, to ensure that your green ethics and credentials translate throughout every aspect of your life, after all no one wants to be a champagne eco warrior.

One of the key times people throw all green credentials out of the window is during a wedding, the heart wants want the heart wants, the perfect roses out of season, the perfect dress from Paris, the list becomes obscene. Fortunately we have discovered a few local gems which mean you don't have to compromise your green credentials. The first and most important decision is the venue, and there is no doubt that one local venue is years ahead of the competition:

Folly Farm in Pensford, just 20mins drive from Frome, this venue is part of the Avon Wildlife Trust, all money paid to the venue goes straight back into the charity. Set in 250 acres of protected woodland, in a beautifully restored farm, there is nowhere better for your dream day.

Accommodation on site is perfect to sleep all the close family, you can easily rent the entire venue for a week, so all the family can bond, fully equipped with a family kitchen, shared rooms, a warm and lovely fireside and stunning nature reserves and walks all around the site. If you are lucky enough to have good weather you could have the entire wedding outside on the lawn, even if you are not lucky there is plenty enough space inside.

My experience of the venue is that they are incredibly helpful, supportive, flexible and willing to do whatever it takes to make your day as perfect and incredible as it should be.

Hi Louise, I'm one of the founder members of Sustainable Frome and look after the website. We meet once a month but have lots of projects on the go too, so you can join in with land & food projects, the car club, electric car project, Co-housing group, etc. We have 350 or so people signed up for the newsletter but not all are active, so to answer your question, I think Frome is very interested & involved in sustainable living. Without a shadow of a doubt, Frome is an incredibly aware and positive place to live ... we have just moved out of the city to live here and will never look back, the town is fabulous!

As a newcomer to the site I'd love to hear more about "sustainable Frome". Me and my partner are very involved in organics and want to return to our roots in somerset with our two children in the next few years and wonder whether Frome is the place for us! Would you identify it as a place with a strong community interest in sustainable living?
