Here is something that really could work.Like many folks i was astonished to read last week that over 1 million pensioners suffer from loneliness.
In this day and age this should NEVER happen.
We will all be old.
Elderly folk that i know HATE Computers and do not really like landlines/mobile for fear of cost to keep in touch.
Back in the 80s i and many had the old CB radios-ok but big and cumbersome in set up.
TWO WAY RADIOS,little hand held walkie talkies are BRILLIANT to keep in touch very simply.
The great thing is they have a 2-3 mile radius and apart from the original handset cost are FREE.
I rang Age UK earlier about this but ideas have to go through "The system"in other words SWEPT under the carpet for "referral".
I remember on the old CB radios years ago they used designated channels i.e all got together on channel 2.
These two way radios have many channels to choose from.
It is a great idea,Simple and very cheap-but HAS to be monitored and make sure no personal details like addresses are given out ect.
This is the cheapest one with over 400 reviews-ideal for folks that are housebound,or just fancy a chat.
Sorry to take up so much space-but i feel an issue like tjhis is what Frome TV missed out on.
All towns/villages/communites should use this sort of thing.
