Hi everyone,

I only moved to Frome last Saturday so I'm still very much getting to know it but I just wanted to express how much I like the place! Myself and my boyfriend are both in our early 20s and we really enjoyed walking around the lovely little streets on Saturday, there's a lovely feel to the town and I actually like the lack of dominating high street shops.

Very happy to be living here! Also want to thank those who helped me via Twitter a few weeks ago re: finding somewhere to eat when we viewed [our now] flat. We ended up at the Archangel and it was great!

Surprised by the Costs opening up! I have been to Frome a few times now. The family have been contemplating moving there as my wife's family are from Somerset. One thing I liked about the town was the lack of the Mc Coffee places like starbucks, Caffe Nero etc and thought this is a place that is proud to be independent.....that's until my last visit!!! Ok....the new Costs may give some young locals a job but so would independent shops! Also, the coffee revolution has been spearheaded by the big corporates...however surely we know better now and a brand name is not needed in order to attract you in! Does anyone know what hapened? How did it succumb?

What do you mean by 'it'? The town? No matter whether 'we' know better or not, we don't have any influence over tenants, all the buildings in town are privately owned. If Costa or any other business want to rent a shop there are very few landlords who would say no - they want the rental income from whoever offers it to them.

In theory the planners could refuse certain uses, but in practise they have to give a good reason for refusal & a coffee house in that location is perfectly acceptable really. Shame. If no-one uses it much then it won't stay.

Fazool, did you see the article on coffee shops in Frome? - no need to visit Costa if you want to support local businesses http://tinyurl.com/3mlj8l9
