I thought it might be interesting to spot a few trends (if there are to be any) of which topics our young adults are studying at GCE level. The Community College issue topics studied but not the level of attainment so this information is based on subjects passed.

Of the 157 students at Frome College, the most popular subjects of study at GCE level were History (18%) & Geography (17%), with 25 studying Psychology (16%). 24 studied English Language and Literature & 23 studied English Lit & Maths (15%). 12% studied Photography, Biology or Business Studies & 9% studied Law. For BTEC studies the most popular course by far was "IT Practitioners (Networking)" with 27 students or 17%, and "Health and Social Care" had 13 students.

These seem to be a fairly traditional mix of subjects, although they seem to reflect the trend of fewer science subjects being chosen. An average of 2.7 GCE's were taken by students, with four students taking 5 (Dylan Brown, James Brownlie, Daniel Cooper & Jessica McGarrigle) & one student, Daniel Hill, with a total of six GCE's to his name.

For news of GCSE results see this article in the Somerset Standard, confirming that Frome College broke the 70 per cent barrier of pupils gaining five A* to C grades in their GCSE results. A full list of the results can be found here.

Well done to all students and we hope that future studies are just as successful.
