Are we ready in Frome?

Probably ..... The highway depot on the Marston Trading Estate in Frome is where a

1,000-tonne pile of salt sourced from Cheshire is stored and three of

the 23 giant gritting lorries wait on standby. More here.

The snow patrol as described in this somerset standard article has been given little support by the people of Frome, so perhaps you could volunteer? - see the story here.

Where do you find information about school closures? Each school will have information available on its website. Here is a list of Somerset schools websites, where you can find all the First School websites.

The three main schools are here - Oakfield, Selwood & Frome Community College.

Listen out on the radio - BBC Somerset Sound (95.5FM, 1566AM, & online) or Frome FM online

And finally, take a look at the gallery of snow photos from Frome last year as a reminder of what might happen next - here.

    News from Les Stather

    SNOW PATROL COMES TO FROME - Unfortunately it's not the well known alternative rock band from Northern Ireland, Frome Snow Patrol has been set up by Frome Resident Les Stather and is a team of volunteers supported by Frome Town Council who will work together to help grit areas of Frome and clear snow from those areas not cleared by Somerset County Council, this free service is aimed at helping those Frome residents who cannot help themselves, eg Elderly residents, those with disabilities and other such groups.     ...and from the Chamber of Commerce President;
    We had some last year – are you ready? Salt and spade are the basics. I know everyone worried about being sued but frankly the risk is minimal if you follow the simple guidelines and don't make things worse. There is guidance from HMG on how to do it right. Even then the Compensation Act 2006 requires the court to balance the risk against the social value of the activity. http://tinyurl.com/34r723v

    If you want reassurance (and to know what your enemy thinks) a firm of PI solicitors doing the dreaded No Win No Fee claims put out a very simple leaflet about snow and ice claims: (pdf) http://tinyurl.com/7fbdw68
