Frome on Sea

Imagine a Sunday in
Frome…. the warm sun beating down as you relax back into a deckchair with a
West Country cider in hand and watch seagulls above. The air is filled with lazy
summer tunes and sounds of children laughing as they excitedly beg Mum and Dad
to let them have a donkey ride, ice cream dribbling down their chins. All your
cares disappear as you feel the fine-grained white sand between your toes. Life
really couldn't get much better - a typical summer's afternoon at a great
British beach, happy days!
But hang on a minute! Frome
doesn't have a beach … except at The Frome Independent this August it will! One of Frome's best loved events is
continuing to live up to its strap-line of being 'more than a market' by bringing
all the fun of the seaside to the town to make it Frome-on–Sea for one day only
on Sunday 3rd August.
Two tonnes of glorious
white, washed sand will replace the village green area of the market next to
the ever-popular Flea market section, complete with deckchairs, boating pond
(well, paddling pool), inflatable seagulls and real live donkey rides - all
without the need for spending hours in endless traffic jams on the way down to the
And if that isn't
enough there will be ad-hoc windsurfing demonstrations, a seaside photo board
to stick your face through, boat making for kids, all to a summer sound clash soundtrack
with Donna Somerset our resident vintage mobile disco plus the best market
traders for miles around taking over the entire town.
So grab your bucket
and spade as well as your shopping bag and come and join us for Frome-on-sea!
