Eyetech Opticians, which has practices in the Frome Medical Centre and Market Place, is encouraging local residents to take charge of their eye health as part of National Eye Health Week. The week, from 16-22 September, aims to raise awareness of the importance of good eye health and the need for regular sight tests for all.
Darren Kirton from local independent Opticians Eyetech, which has practices in Frome Medical Centre and Market Place, is encouraging Frome residents to have regular eye examinations.
As part of the week, Opticians, businesses and charities are all working together to raise awareness and encourage communities to look after their eye health. Key messages this year include the impact of lifestyle on eye sight and the importance of regular examinations to monitor and pick up any potential problems as early as possible.
"Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss yet over half of sight loss can be avoided, so it is vital everyone takes care of their eyes," said Darren Kirton, Optometrist at Eyetech Opticians. "Regular eye examinations, at least one every two years, are absolutely vital and can do much more than simply assess vision. In fact they can help to detect other underlying health problems."
"Sight is the sense people fear losing the most, yet many of us don't know the best way to look after our eyes. This is why it is so important you get your eye health tested every two years even if you think your vision is fine as some eye conditions may not show symptoms," said Francesca Marchetti, Chair of the National Eye Health Week Steering Group.
Eyetech Independent Opticians provides eye examinations, spectacles, contact lenses and sunglasses with practices in Frome, Midsomer Norton and Street. It also offers the Eyeplan eye care scheme to make high quality eye care more affordable and accessible. For more information go to www.eyetech-opticians.co.uk.
