Proposals for redesign of Market Place in Frome and surrounding spaces have been exhibited for comment. There are four options. Here are extracts from the proposals.

There are six A1 sheets explaining the proposals. You can download them by clicking on the links. The images above show the three main proposals, option 3, option 2a & option 1.Your views will be taken to the next steering group meeting on Tuesday 9th October - please comment by Monday 8th Oct.

Sheet 1 - analysis of the Market Place & surrounding spaces.

Sheet 2 - General traffic calming ideas an Option 1 - This option shows how a signal controlled crossing could be placed at the foot of Bath Street; note that the police layby would be resurfaced. The Market Place would stay as it is today. There may be difficulties achieving this solution due to non-standard sightlines

Sheet 3 - Option 2A - Super Crossing - Signal controlled super-crossing on pedestrian desire lines on Market Place + raised table. All-red phase will allow pedestrians to cross in any direction.

Sheet 4 - Option 2B - 3 Zebra Crossings - Zebra crossings on pedestrian desire lines on Market Place + raised table. Pedestrians would be allowed continuous access across zebra crossings only.

Sheet 5 - Option 3 - Courtesy crossings - This option completely transforms the Market Place, by resurfacing and realigning kerbs, widening footways and providing "courtesy crossings" which mark crossing points. Drivers will drive much slower due to the design of the carriageway, making it easier for pedestrians to cross.

Sheet 6 - Principles of redesign and wider issues.

See two galleries of images from the exhibition here & here.

You can contact the Town Council with your views - see the webpage here & email them on consultation@frome-tc.gov.uk

Update - the general consensus was that Option 3 (the most radical option) should be taken forward to the next stage of development. This will include more design work, technical studies and outline costings to enable the Town Council to consider how the improvements might be funded. The feasibility study should be completed by the end of November.

Thanks for that! - The sheet three link is currently that for sheet 4 - the working link is null

This was a really interesting presentation - the sheets are well worth looking at.
