After some surprising statistics showing that £6.2 million is spent in Frome centre on food shopping (11% of Frome's food spend), here is information about all the food stores in the town centre;

For grocers & bakers; On the west side of Market Place - The Co-op (Westway), S K Fruits (Scott Road - pics) & Greggs, on the east side in Cheap Street are The Old Bakehouse, Frome Wholefoods & Sagebury Cheese. Larger foodstores are Lidl (top of Vicarage Street), M&S (Kingsway) & Iceland (Market Place).

Specialist food shops are: Holland & Barrett (Westway), Bracends (sweets in Cheap Street), Foods of the World (moved from Cork Street to Catherine Hill & now renamed) & Jackson's Wines (Market Place).

Many other food supplies can be found in the street markets on Wednesday & Saturday (bread, cheese, fish, meat, game, olives, veg.) and the Country Market every Thursday morning at the Cheese & Grain, plus the monthly Farmers markets, also at the C&G every second Saturday.

If you like to have your vegetables grown locally & delivered to your door then you could try buying veg boxes from our very own Vallis Veg - eat seasonal food & reduce your food miles too.

What about Hot Food / Takeaways?

Try Frome Charcoal Grill & Pizza Plus in Bath Street, or the new Seven Fish Bar or Pangs Fish Restaurant in Church Street & King Street.

Some Cafe's / Restaurants offer takeaways, notably Balti Delight, Burger Xperience in Kingsway & Cafe La Strada in Cheap Street.

These are the eight categories of town centre shops (excluding 'services') & here are articles plus the number of each type of shop - Food shops (13 + market stalls); Restaurants, cafe's & pubs (25); Household goods (19); Arts & crafts plus gifts (29); Hair & beauty (17); Retro & second-hand shops (14), Clothes & shoes (23); Specialist shops (11), plus Services (39).

See the Shopping Directory for all Frome businesses and this article on markets. Also see the shops on twitter.

    I really like shopping in Lidl's, it's quick, free parking & is very good value for money. My hubby really enjoys their smoked sausages but the cat doesn't like their catfood. Much better than Sainsburys - I really hate the car park layout there.
