Clarrie Dunbar Indoor Bowls Club start the new year with 12 national competitions still to fight for.
-
John Freeman, left, has semi-finals of four national competitions to play in the coming weeks, while Graham Shadwell, right, has qualified for the Champion of Champions men's singles finals
The club has a chance of revenge against Torquay United in the last 16 of the Egham Trophy, having lost on an extra end at the same stage of the mixed four-rink competition last season.
In the Top Club, which features men's and ladies' singles, along with mixed pairs, triples and fours, Clarrie face Bristol in the third round.
Meanwhile, Graham Shadwell has reached the final stages of the Champion of Champions men's singles and will take on Alan Minns from Croydon in the last 16.
John Freeman and Russell Francis have reached the area semi-finals of the men's singles campaign, while Freeman has joined with Duncan McGovern to qualify for the same stage of the men's pairs.
Along with Keith Bailey, they are both also in the triples and fours teams that have reached the semi-finals, with Craig Doughty completing the four-man team.
Clarrie's over-60s entrants have also impressed so far, with Dick Discombe reaching the area semi-finals of the men's singles. Paul Hewitt and Fred Pope have progressed to the same stage of the over-60s pairs, while Duncan Baxter's quartet are in the fours area final.
Thelma Deane, Teresa King, Ailsa Midwinter and Jo Dunford are keeping the club's interest going in the ladies' competitions. They face a team from North Wilts in the area final of the fours event on January 13.
Also in an area final are McGovern and Thelma Deane, who take on a Bristol twosome in the mixed pairs for a place in the finals in Northampton.
On Sunday, Clarrie's ladies take on Minehead in the first round of the Somerset Inter-Club competition, while the men face Yeovil in a league clash.
