FROME MP David Heath has called for the release of Government funds to ensure that every business and private address in Somerset has the chance to connect to high-speed broadband.

At yesterday's Question Time, Mr Heath revealed that BT have now confirmed that 82 per cent of the premises in his constituency will be connected to high-speed broadband by the end of 2016. But that still leaves over 8,000 properties in the more rural areas which will be left out, the so-called "last 10 per cent". He now wants the Government to commit the funds set aside for rural provision to be deployed to make sure that no one is left behind, and that we do not enter a new complex bidding process for funds. Speaking in advance of Question Time Mr Heath said it was good news that people could now map out areas which will be connected.

"However, high-speed broadband is vital for economic growth and jobs; it's crucial to companies wanting to do business in the modern world, and is such an increasingly important part of life more generally, that I for one am not prepared to see those in the countryside miss out."

Old heath makes me laugh, all these years as an mp,never asked a pm question that i can recall, now he is giving up he raises a question that should have been answered years ago-THE MOBILE BROADBAND has overtaken the landline providers-no more OPENREACH--Hooray,no more waiting for engineeers,Hooray,no more poxy call centres--HOORAY for that as well.

BT have the market well and truly sown up,line rental getting more and more expensive.
Virgin media absolute garbage, when it rains all the services go thanks to the BODGE JOB of telewest contractors laying the cable in 1990s.

    Long live the mobile dongle....

"I for one am not prepared to see those in the countryside miss out." Really?

Tell that to the agricultural wages board that you laughed in the face of by voting against keeping a fair wage, and the carbuncle that was the badger cull.

    DEFRA really means deaf ears!

The countryside did miss out, he was more like Ted Heath than David Heath once he smelt power.

Shame on you abandoning your policies and young countryside folk paying the price of triple university fees that you promised wouldn't happen. Got yours for free of course, like your second home and energy bill. You are the real freeloaders in society.

YOU LET THE COUNTRYSIDE MISS OUT MR HEATH.
